OAKLAND — The Oakland B&O Museum is hosting classes in a series called “The Railroads of Garrett County: A History” at the B&O Railroad Station on East Liberty Street in Oakland.
The classes will start at 4:30 p.m. on June 1 and will follow every Thursday until June 22.
This is a newly revised course with a significant new section on the B&O Railroad during the Civil War under the presidency of John W. Garrett, for whom Garrett County is named. It will cover the railroads in general terms for participants with even a mild interest in rail travel.
Historian, author and educator Neal Brooks will describe the railroads’ development, decline and main purposes.
The class is offered through Continuing Education at Garrett College. To register, call 301-387-3069. For more information in general, call Dr. Brooks at 443-834-4602.
