OAKLAND — Floyd Lee Wensel Jr., 92, died peacefully at home early on May 1.
Floyd was born in Oakland, son of Floyd Lee Sr. and Bertha Wensel and husband of the late Margaret Dianne Sheehe Wensel.
He is survived by his loving family, son Timothy Floyd and Renee Wensel of Triadelphia; son Matthew Jon Wensel and Lawrence Martin of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughter Margaret Anne Wensel Blacker and Lance Blacker of Barnesville, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Jaquie Simoncic Eater, wife of the late son Andrew Wensel; and his grandchildren Timothy Ryan Wensel and Margaret Marie Blacker.
“Flerd” as he was known by family will be greatly missed by his surviving (of seven siblings) brother Donald Wensel and sisters, Dortha Wilt and Gladys Fahrety and many nieces, nephews and friends.
After serving in the National Guard (U.S. Army Engineering) Floyd obtained a degree at Business Training College in Pittsburgh. He then married Dianne.
Floyd began working with computers at National Mine Service Company, then moved to Wheeling, W.Va. to manage the data processing department at Ohio Valley Hospital (OVMC). After retiring from the OV, he assisted with tax preparation for seniors in Belmont and Ohio counties.
In the 1970s, Floyd was instrumental with getting the Little League program started at Dallas Pike. He and his wife delivered meals for the Wheeling Catholic Charities for several years. He was a member of St Vincent’s Men’s Club, a member and former president of the Elm Grove Civics, and could be seen helping at Bingo each week.
Floyd was known by all for the incredible jelly he made. All his friends and neighbors would save him berries, fruit or juice to make it, in hopes of getting a few jars.
Friends were received on Friday, May 5, from 4-7 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove.
A graveside service with military honors was held May 6 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1685 National Rd., Wheeling.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943 or by visiting www.TMCFunding.com; or the charity of your choice.
Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com.
