The Preston Knights saw their 2023 baseball season come to an end on Wednesday as they fell to the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers, 15-1, in the WV Class AAA Region I, Section 2 elimination game.
Elijah Bryant homered, driving in three runs and scoring three, to lead B-U.
Zach Calef-Boring went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs as the Buccaneers scored five runs in the second, third and fourth innings each.
Preston was held to just five hits with Mason Chaney recording a double and a single while Lukas McVicker recorded a pair of singles and an RBI. Brady McNew had a double.
The Knights’ lone run came in the top of the first inning on McVicker’s single. B-U would score five runs each in the second, third and fourth innings to round out the scoring and force a five-inning run rule.
This game came one day after Preston fell 29-6 to University in the opening round of sectionals.
The Knights finish the season with a 7-14 record.
The Knights were featured in latest batch of the team and individual rankings on RunWV.com which were released earlier this week.
