Despite a seventh-inning rally, the No. 2 seeded Northern Huskies fell to the No. 3 Fort Hill Sentinels, 9-5, in Monday afternoon’s 1A West Region I semifinal softball matchup.
Trailing 9-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies took advantage of a couple errors and used a 2-RBI triple from Madison Seese to trim the deficit to 9-4. Ada White would later add a sacrifice fly to center to make it a 9-5 game, but that was as close as the Huskies would get.
Fort Hill scored two in the second and then doubled its lead in the top of the third when Lindsey Ternent hit a two-run double. The Sentinels plated three more in the fourth before closing out its scoring with two more in the sixth.
Seese finished with two RBIs and two hits including a double. Gracie Maust, who scored the Huskies’ first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, finished with three singles and an RBI. White had a double and a single and drove in a run.
Both teams recorded nine hits while Paetyn Davis led the Sentinels with three of them.
Bailey Champlin tossed six innings for the Huskies and struck out 10 batters in the loss while giving up nine runs (two earned) on nine hits. Madison Seese pitched the seventh inning and struck out two batters.
