KINGWOOD — Both Ranger Burgess and Tucker Hatfield found the back of the net three times, recording hat-tricks to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer boys lacrosse team to a commanding road win over the Preston Knights last Wednesday, 15-1.
Hatfield rounded out his stat-line by collecting three ground balls and forcing a takeaway while Burgess finished with an assist and a team-high nine ground balls collected.
The Buccaneers’ attack had their way with the Knights’ defense, seemingly scoring at will with Nathen Smith, Liam Roby, Joey Butcher Ryan Thompson and Dalton Atwell all chimed in with two goals apiece while Kyle McCann and Kaleb Roby also added a goal apiece.
The Buccaneers dominated the possession game, winning 17 of the game’s 19 face-offs with McCann leading the way with seven wins in nine attempts.
Defensively, Remmy Bennett spent a full 48 minutes in the net for the Buccaneers, earning the win after only giving up one goal and racking up eight saves on nine shots on goal.
Lakoda Lantz was everywhere for the Buccaneers’ stingy defense, collecting eight ground balls and forcing a team-high nine takeaways.
Several other B-U defenders turn in notable performances as Thompson collected a pair of ground balls and forced two takeaways, Logan Lynch collected three ground balls and forced two takeaways, Noah Thomas collected three ground balls and forced two takeaways and Easton Rice collected three ground balls and one takeaway to help shut the Knights’ attack down and seal the win.
With the win, the Buckhannon-Upshur boy’s lacrosse team improves to 5-3 record. The Buccaneers will make their return to the field as they host Fairmont Senior for a non-league test on Wednesday.
