Lewis County High School’s Track squads had a strong showing at the Class AA Region II Championships hosted at the school on Friday, May 12. Lewis County won regional titles in six events, and qualified 12 athletes for the State Meet in 15 events.
Slate Swiger held pace the boys team to a second place team finish in the event. Swiger put in around the equivalent of three and half miles of running on his way to Championships in the 800 meter, the 1600 meter, and the 3200 meter.
Swiger was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that included David Hughes, Carder Holden, and Jorrin Baxter that qualified with a second palace finish.
Holden, a freshman, also qualified for the State Meet in the 400 meter, and as part of the 4x200 meter relay team that also included Baxter, Adan Riddle and Isaac Smith.
David Hughes qualified in the 3200 meter, and just missed out on both the 800 meter and the 1600 meter, finishing in 5th in both.
Bianca Jamen won the Regional Championship in the 100 meter dash, and took second in the 200 meter. Jamen also qualified for states in as part of the 4x200 meter relay team that includes Haylee Lewis, Autumn Donnellan, and Brianna Cermak.
Donnellan added her own Regional title in the long jump.
Belgian exchange student Aymeric Grymonpre represented his adopted home school well, wining the championship in Discus, and qualifying for the State Meet in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Grymonpre was also part of the 110 meter shuttle hurdle relay team that qualified for the trip to Charleston. Baxter, Mitchell Norman, and Isaac Smith round out the rest of that relay team.
Taylor Hall posted a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, qualifying the Sophomore for a trip the state meet. The girls 4x102.5 shuttle hurdle team of Jayna Jerdan, Fallyn Jennings, Cermak, and Hall will also make the trip after a fourth place in the region.
Hunter Starett vaulted his way to states with a third place finish in the pole vault.
The State Meet with begin on May 19 at Laidley Field in Charleston.
