The ladies of the Berlin CEOS club met on April 11 at the Berlin United Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m. by President Judy Smith. Marsha Gant, Vice President, read Isaiah 58:11, and How Does Your Spiritual Garden Grow by Rebecca Jordan for the devotions.
The lesson for the month was given by Sherri Smith. She spoke about the importance of pollinators for the world and the different types of pollinators for flowerbeds and gardens. Honeybees, and other types of bees, butterflies, beetles, hummingbirds, and even bats are also pollinators.
Barbara Squires led the Pledge to the Flag. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Sandy Smith and approved. A Thank You card from Barbara Daughtery was read. Treasurers report was given by Mary Marple and accepted.
Lucille Hicks, Family and Health chair, read “The Minister Has Guts” by Minister Joe Wright, Open Prayer for Kansas Senate by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. April was take your calcium month, and Lucille reminded everyone to exercise daily and then led the group in exercises.
Marketing and Membership Chair Linda White gave dates of upcoming events: May 2 at the Lewis County Courthouse for CEOS Week proclamation; May 5 work on the flower beds at WVU Jackson’s Mill; May 14-19 is WV CEOS Week with the Salad Luncheon on May 15 at Broad Street United Methodist Church. Lucille, Judy, Marsha, Barbara, and Linda provided salads. Rolls were brought my Mary, iced tea by Sandy, butter by Evelyn, and ice by Barbara. On August 24 work will take place again on the flowerbeds at WVU Jackson’s MIll.
A word scramble game was played and won by Connie Krafft.
Continuing Education Chair Sherri Smith spoke on the meaning of the folded napkin. Sherri asked the question if those present knew what the hottest pepper was, and it is the Carolina Reaper. Sherri mentioned they are having trouble getting teachers for Energy Express but we need to continue saving items.
Judy Smith gave a book report titled “Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness,” by Jerry Cook and Stanley Baldwin. Evelyn Krafft said 53 books were read, 60 books were read out loud, the public library was used by two members, and seven books were donated.
Under old business: At the August meeting Connie Krafft will teach members how to make Mountain Pie in a pie iron over a camp fire. The Doddridge County Make and Take is scheduled for May 16.
Under new Business: Tip of the Hat nominee was selected May 1. Sherri Smith nominated Sandy Smith which was seconded by Linda White. The nomination passed. WV CEOS NVON meeting will be July 18, 19, and 20.
