West Virginia moved into the Top 10 of every notable college baseball poll this week, and is also in the discussion for selection as both a regional host and as a national seed, although the latter is by no means a sure bet.
First up, the latest rankings.
WVU is ranked highest this week in D1Baseball's version. The Mountaineers are sixth, one spot ahead of head coach Randy Mazey's alma mater Clemson, after jumping six positions from last week's No. 12 slotting.
WVU moved up four spots to No. 7 in Baseball America's Top 25 Poll on Monday. In the process, the Mountaineers knocked Texas Tech out of that publication's Top 25. West Virginia is 5-2 against BA's Top 25.
WVU is likewise at No. 7 in the Coaches Poll, conducted by USAToday, which is a compilation of the votes of 31 Division 1 head coaches. There too, the Mountaineers moved up from No. 11 last week,
College Baseball Nation also lists WVU at No. 7, up from No. 14 a week ago.
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has the Mountaineers at No. 8, up from No. 12 one week ago, while Perfect Game, which has consistently had West Virginia a bit lower in its rankings this year, put it at No. 12.
The NCAA Selection committee will announce the 16 regional sites in the NCAA championship, hosted by the top 16 seeds in the 64-team field, on Sunday, May 28. The entire field, including the bracketing for all teams at each of the 16 regional sites, will be announced at noon on Monday, May 29.Â

WVU infielder JJ Wetherholt racked up another national honor this week as he was named Perfect Game's player of the week.
Perfect Game noted: "The West Virginia Mountaineers are putting together one of the best seasons in program history. They currently have a record of (39-13), are No.12 in the Perfect Game Top-25 poll this week and most importantly have a 2-game lead in the Big-12 standings. They are a terror to deal with offensively and the guy setting the tone is JJ Wetherholt, the lefthanded hitter from Mars, Pennsylvania. At 5-10/190 he is densely muscled and full of fast twitch and arguably the best blend of power and speed in the college game today. In four games last week, Wetherholt went 8 for 16, scoring three runs, collecting two doubles, two home runs and two stolen bases while driving in four runs. For the season, he now has a slash line of .466/.829/.530, with 21 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 56 RBIs and an impressive 35 stolen bases to go with it all. With his monster season, Wetherholt has pushed himself into being one of the front runners for the Golden Spikes Award.
