The Knights were featured in latest batch of the team and individual rankings on RunWV.com which were released earlier this week.
As a team, Preston remained at the No. 7 spot in the Class AAA Girls Power Rankings. The top 10 includes Morgantown at the top, followed by Jefferson, Huntington, Woodrow Wilson, Parkersburg, Hurricane, Preston, Spring Mills, Bridgeport and Martinsburg.
Individual rankings go by the best mark achieved this season through meets held by April 22 and received by April 24. Members of the Preston girls’ squad are featured in six different events while the boys are represented in one event.
Sierra Davis holds the No. 1 ranking in the discus (122’ 03”) and moved up to the No. 5 spot in the shot put (35’ 02”). Ella White is No. 2 in the 400m dash with a mark of 58.55 and No. 6 in the 800m (2:22.07). Finally, the girls have two different relay teams in the rankings with the 4x400 group (4:18.05) ranked No. 4 and the 4x800 team (10:29.52) ranked No. 7.
On the boys’ side, Preston junior Jaxon Saucer is ranked No. 8 in the long jump with a mark of 20’ 8.25”.
Preston is slated to compete in today’s Rush Invitational hosted by Clay-Battelle High School. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with running events to start at 4:30.
The Preston Knights’ girls’ lacrosse team picked up its second victory of the season back on Saturday as it knocked off the visiting Jefferson County Wild, 10-6.
The Knights led the Wild 6-4 at the half before outscoring the visitors 4-2 in the second half to pull away for good.
Rese Lily, Kira Crites, Teagan Findlay and Celtie Sypolt registered two goals apiece for the Knights while Savannah Fields and Abby Davis each scored one goal. Findlay led the team in ground balls with 11 while Davis added 10.
Goalkeeper Kayleigh Thomas kept the Wild out of reach by recording seven saves between the pipes.
Jefferson’s Raegan Bailey led all scorers with a hat trick in the loss.
Preston hosts the University Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
