West Virginia will be the No. 3 seed in next week's Big 12 Baseball Championship, which runs from May 24-28 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Mountaineers will face Texas Tech, which it defeated two games to one in a series at Monongalia County Ballpark that concluded just 10 days prior to this first round game.
WVU and Tech are slated for the last game of Wednesday's first round, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m ET but could be later depending on the length of the three games set for earlier in the day. The contest, like most of those in the championship, can be viewed on ESPN+.
West Virginia secured the first Big 12 baseball regular season title in program history. It was the second consecutive year that the Mountaineers have set a school record for wins in a Big 12 season.
Texas claimed the No. 1 seed by virtue of its tiebreaker win in head-to-head competition with WVU and Oklahoma State, all of which finished with 15-9 league records. It is the first time in Conference history that three teams shared the Big 12 baseball regular season title. The Longhorns will get Kansas, the No. 8 seed in the first round, while the Cowboys will play in another Bedlam game against Oklahoma.
TCU defeated Kansas State on Saturday to push the Horned Frogs past the Wildcats in the seedings at No. 4, but that made no difference in their tournament opponent, as they will rematch in the first round on Wednesday.
Baylor, the last place finisher in the Big 12, did not qualify for the tournament.
