As the puck dropped on the 2019-2020 NHL season, expectations were placed on the Carolina Hurricanes to follow up a year where they reached the Eastern Conference Finals with an equally good, or better, second act. And for most of the season, the Canes not only proved their miracle run last year wasn’t a fluke, but that they were poised for a deep run in the playoffs, like last year’s squad.

In one of the most active trade deadlines in team history, the Carolina Hurricanes went out and acquired three big-name players: center Vincent Trocheck and defensemen Brady Skjei and Sami Vatanen.

It began as five minutes of brilliant hockey for the Carolina Hurricanes. 

It was then followed up by 55 minutes of errors, blunders and all-around poor play resulting in a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night at PNC Arena.
