Police arrested a student for possessing a loaded AR-15-style rifle on campus Sunday afternoon. NC State told Technician the University didn’t send a WolfAlert out because there was never a safety issue, and the student was located within minutes and arrested.

Adam Sulaiman, a dual-enrollment student at NC State and Wake Technical Community College studying construction engineering, was arrested for possessing a weapon on campus, which is a felony. He was placed in Wake County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

Lauren Barker, senior media relations strategist in University Communications, said officers received a call from a student that a rifle was seen in an unoccupied truck parked on Cates Avenue near Owen Hall on Sunday around 4 p.m. Police located a phone number for the registered owner and made contact with the driver, Sulaiman.

“The driver met officers at the vehicle and granted consent to search the vehicle,” Barker said via email. “The rifle is a .223 caliber rifle and was loaded with 20 rounds of .223 ammunition. It was taken into custody along with 46 rounds of 9mm ammunition but no 9mm handgun was located.”

Barker said the rifle was a Palmetto State Armory PA 15.
