Ko shoots career low in final round, Pack finishes ninth at ACCs

The NC State women’s golf team finished up competition at the ACC Championships at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro Saturday, tying for ninth place as a team with a three-round score of 902 (+38).

The Wolfpack tied with rival UNC-Chapel Hill in ninth, as Wake Forest took the ACC title with a team score of 850 (-14). The Pack shot a 303 (+15) and 308 (+20) in the first two rounds of competition, before wrapping things up with its best round of the weekend, a 291 (+3).

Senior India Clyburn captured a top-20 finish to lead the Pack, tying for 20th with a three-round score of 223 (+7). Clyburn started out the tournament shooting a 74 (+2), before scoring a second-day 76 (+4). Like the Pack did as a team, Clyburn finished out her ACC Championships with her best round, a 73 (+1).

Two strokes behind Clyburn was sophomore Monika Hartl, who tied for 26th with a score of 225 (+9). Hartl’s best round came on day two, as she shot an even-par 72. She started things off with a 76 (+4) and wrapped up her tournament with a 77 (+5).

Senior Laura Kowohl wrapped up her ACC career by tying for 36th place with a 227 (+11). After a first-round 74 (+2), Kowohl struggled in her second round for an 81 (+9). Kowohl bounced back well though, as she wrapped things up with her best round of the event, a 72 (E).

Senior Naomi Ko also finished on a high note, shooting the Pack’s best individual score of the meet in her final round. Ko shot a 69 (-3) on Saturday, the best round of her NC State career. The first two days were much less friendly to Ko, as she opened up play with an 80 (+8) and 79 (+7).

Wrapping up the Pack’s competitors was junior Mim Sangkapong, who finished in 58th with a three-round score of 241 (+25). She shot a 79 (+7) in the first round, before finishing things off with back-to-back 81s (+9).

The Wolfpack will now wait for the NCAA women’s golf selection show, which will take place Wednesday evening.
